This nest was found under the eaves of a building at a Morro Bay Campground. Looking at the chick in the foreground, it's feathers appear to be well developed and are already showing the typical Black phoebe coloring pattern. The beaks still look very chick-like though.

Wilferd Gets the Vulture Chick

We went out to find a few nests with vulture chicks so we could weigh the chicks, take blood, & tag them for a study. When a nest was found, Wilferd would put a ladder up to the nest, climb up, grab the chick (only one chick on a nest; the parents leave as people approach), wrap it in a tarp, & carry it down. These lappet-faced vulture chicks are very docile & prety much just sit there & stare while being accosted.
